Granite 4.0

Hybrid Mamba-2/transformer open models that slash long-context memory use.

About

Granite 4.0 is IBM's family of open-weight hybrid models mixing Mamba-2 state-space layers with transformer attention in a 9:1 ratio, all under Apache 2.0. The lineup spans from the 32B-total H-Small (9B active) down to 3B dense models, and IBM claims over 70% lower memory needs for long-context, multi-session inference versus pure transformers.

IBM also touts ISO 42001 certification and cryptographically signed checkpoints — enterprise trust signals few open models offer. The memory claims are IBM's own; independent long-context benchmarks are the thing to check before committing.

/10 trustVerified

Scored 8/10 (verified tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: Major IBM release with wide coverage (VentureBeat, DBTA, c-sharpcorner); 70% memory-reduction claim is IBM's own; ISO 42001 certification independently audited per IBM; Manual review: credible enterprise open family; long-context claims await independent validation. License: Apache 2.0.
