ERNIE X1 Turbo is Baidu's upgraded deep-thinking reasoning model, introduced on April 25, 2025 at the Baidu Create 2025 developer conference in Wuhan. It is the Turbo follow-up to ERNIE X1, Baidu's flagship reasoning model that debuted in March 2025.
Baidu claims X1 Turbo has a more advanced chain of thought, stronger deep reasoning, and improved multimodal and tool-invocation abilities than its predecessor, and says it outperforms DeepSeek R1 and the latest DeepSeek V3 on reasoning benchmarks, vendor-reported. It handles complex text generation, logic puzzles, math, and image understanding.
The launch was as much about price as capability: X1 Turbo is priced at about 25 percent of DeepSeek R1, roughly $0.14 per million input tokens and $0.55 per million output tokens. It shipped alongside ERNIE 4.5 Turbo and was integrated into ERNIE Bot, Baidu's cloud services, and content platforms.
