ERNIE X1 is Baidu's multimodal reasoning model, launched March 2025 alongside ERNIE 4.5. It pairs chain-of-thought reasoning with tool invocation and multimodal understanding, and Baidu claimed performance on par with DeepSeek R1 at roughly half the API price.
It is free for individuals through ERNIE Bot, with API access via Baidu AI Cloud's Qianfan platform. The performance claims are Baidu's own, and the model is served through Baidu's ecosystem rather than as open weights.
