WeNet
Production-first end-to-end ASR: one model for streaming and non-streaming, built to ship.
About
WeNet is an open-source toolkit whose whole pitch is closing the gap between ASR research and production. Its U2 (Unified Two Pass) design trains a single CTC/attention model with a Transformer or Conformer encoder that serves both streaming and non-streaming through dynamic chunk attention, and trained models export straight through TorchScript with no conversion step. Started at Mobvoi (paper arXiv 2102.01547), it is now developed under the wenet-e2e org: Apache 2.0, about 5,200 stars. It ships a pip package and CLI (wenet -m paraformer audio.wav) with pretrained Paraformer, FireRed and Whisper variants, plus x86 server and Android runtimes.

Benchmarks
Paper and recipe-published results (e.g. AISHELL CER improvements over a standard Transformer); community-run rather than a vendor leaderboard.
Provider-reported unless a source says otherwise. Benchmarks are marketing-adjacent by nature — treat them as directional.
Use cases
Trust score — 8/10
Scored 8/10 (verified tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: wenet-e2e/wenet repo verified active with ~5.2k stars and Apache-2.0 via GitHub API; U2 paper (arXiv 2102.01547) documents the architecture and AISHELL results. Strengths: genuinely production-oriented design, unified streaming model, maintained runtimes. Docked for: (1) smaller community than ESPnet/SpeechBrain; (2) Chinese-speech heritage means English recipe coverage is thinner. License: Apache-2.0.
