voyage-law-2
Legal-domain embedding tuned for contracts, statutes, and case law, with a 16K context window.
About
voyage-law-2 is Voyage AI's domain-specific embedding model for legal text, one of the first specialist models in its portfolio alongside the code and finance variants. It targets the vocabulary and structure of contracts, statutes, regulations, and case law, where general-purpose embeddings routinely miss the precise sense of terms of art.
The model takes up to 16,000 tokens and emits 1,024-dimensional vectors. Voyage AI was acquired by MongoDB in February 2025 and its models are now served through MongoDB's Voyage AI inference endpoints, with the law-2 model priced at $0.12 per million tokens and a 50-million-token free tier. It is API-only with no open weights.

Benchmarks
Voyage claims leading legal-retrieval quality on legal benchmarks (provider-reported, launch blog); no independent MTEB/BEIR figures published
Provider-reported unless a source says otherwise. Benchmarks are marketing-adjacent by nature — treat them as directional.
Use cases
Trust score — 8/10
Scored 8/10 (verified tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: 16K context, 1024 dims, $0.12/1M pricing, and 50M free tokens confirmed on MongoDB's official Voyage docs; MongoDB acquisition (Feb 2025) documented by multiple sources. Strengths: clearest legal-domain embedding option in the market, generous free tier, stable provider. Docked for: (1) weights closed; (2) retrieval-quality claims are provider-run with no independent eval.
