About
Point-E is OpenAI's text-to-3D system, open-sourced on December 20, 2022. It converts text prompts into 3D objects in one to two minutes on a single GPU, much faster than contemporaries like DreamFusion or Magic3D.
It works in two stages: first generating a synthetic 2D view from the prompt with a text-to-image diffusion model, then producing a colored 3D point cloud (1024 points, refined to 4096) with a second diffusion model conditioned on that image. OpenAI released the code and the research paper on GitHub.
