PanGu E Series

The PanGu E Series is the embedded tier of Huawei's PanGu large model family, the 1-billion-parameter scale designed for on-device AI on phones, tablets, PCs, and wearables. It was introduced with PanGu 5.0 at Huawei Developer Conference 2024 as part of a four-tier lineup spanning the 1B E Series up to trillion-parameter S Series models.

The E Series powers on-device experiences in HarmonyOS, including the upgraded Xiaoyi (Celia) assistant, where small local models handle latency-sensitive or privacy-sensitive tasks without cloud round-trips. It shares the broader PanGu training philosophy of adapting large-model capabilities down to constrained hardware.

Unlike the openPangu releases (7B and 72B Pro MoE), the E Series is a closed, commercial deployment shipped inside Huawei devices and enterprise solutions. It is included here as the reference point for Huawei's on-device AI stack and the embedded tier of China's most vertically integrated AI ecosystem.
