Mirage
The UGC video foundation model from Mirage (formerly Captions): script or audio in, hyper-realistic talking video out, no actors needed.
About
Mirage is the in-house video foundation model from the New York company formerly known as Captions, launched in March 2025 and important enough that the company renamed itself Mirage in September 2025 to match its research ambitions. Unlike the lip-sync tools that dominated AI talking video, it generates the whole performance from scratch: actors, backgrounds, voices, and scripts are all synthesized from a text prompt plus an audio file, video file, or script, with full facial and upper-body motion rather than just moving lips over existing footage. The company positions it as the first foundation model built specifically for UGC-style ads and talking content.
Access is commercial: the creator app is freemium and Mirage Studio, launched June 2025 for brands, was priced at $399/month for 8,000 credits. The company claims 20 million creators and 250 million videos made, but those are company figures with no independent verification, and 'world's first' style marketing should be read as marketing. Note the name collision: Decart, an unrelated startup, launched a separate real-time video-to-video product also called Mirage in July 2025; this entry is the Captions/Mirage UGC model only.

Use cases
Trust score — 6/10
Scored 6/10 (metrics tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: company blog captions.ai (Mirage model announcement), TechCrunch rebrand coverage Sept 4, 2025 (Captions to Mirage, $399/mo Studio pricing), AlternativeTo launch reports Mar/Jun 2025. Strengths: real shipped product with paying customers, in-house model (not a wrapper), clear pricing. Docked for: (1) fully proprietary with no public weights and no published benchmarks; (2) 'world's first' claims are unverified marketing; (3) name collision with Decart's unrelated Mirage product creates confusion. License: proprietary.
