About

Magnific AI started as an independent AI upscaler built in Spain by Javi Lopez and Emilio Nicolas, launched in 2023, and made its name with a two-pass approach that hallucinates realistic detail instead of merely stretching pixels. A Creativity slider lets users choose how much new detail the model invents versus how faithfully it preserves the original, which made it popular with digital artists and game developers upscaling concept art and illustrations. Freepik acquired Magnific in May 2024.

On April 28, 2026 the story flipped: Freepik retired its own brand and consolidated its entire AI stack, image and video generation, upscaling, audio, stock library, under the Magnific name at magnific.com. The company reports roughly $230 million in annual revenue and over a million paying subscribers. Reviews put paid tiers around $6.60 to $210 per month on annual billing, with a limited watermarked free plan. The original Magnific upscaler survives inside the suite alongside Topaz and other enhancement tools.

Trust score — 8/10

/10 trustVerified

Scored 8/10 (verified tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: acquisition by Freepik (May 2024) and April 28, 2026 full rebrand to Magnific at magnific.com confirmed by Wikipedia, Freepik's own migration docs, and multiple 2026 review outlets; launch year 2023 and founders confirmed by WebNeel; pricing bands from FreeVisuals review. Strengths: real product with years of operating history, major-company backing post-acquisition, API offered, large reported subscriber base. Docked for: (1) precise pricing is region-sensitive and review-reported, not taken from the official pricing page; (2) no published benchmarks; (3) rebrand churn confuses legacy Freepik/Magnific account holders. License: proprietary.
