Inflection-2 was announced in November 2023 as the model powering Pi, Inflection AI's personal assistant. Trained on 5,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs, it was positioned as best-in-class for its compute tier, second only to GPT-4 on standard academic benchmarks at the time.
What distinguished Inflection-2 was its tuning philosophy: optimized for empathetic, conversational intelligence rather than benchmark maximalism. After Microsoft hired Inflection's founders and much of its team in March 2024, the model continued via the Inflection API as a closed offering.
