Imagen 4
Google's flagship text-to-image model — 2K photorealism with best-in-class text rendering, in three speed tiers.
About
Imagen 4 (May 20, 2025, Google I/O) is Google DeepMind's flagship text-to-image model: sharp fine detail (fabrics, fur, water), photorealistic and abstract styles across aspect ratios, up to 2K resolution, and significantly improved spelling and typography — Google's answer to the text-rendering weakness of earlier diffusion models.
Ships in three tiers: Fast (10x faster than Imagen 3, provider-claimed), Standard, and Ultra (max fidelity), priced per image. Available in the Gemini app, Whisk, Vertex AI, and Google Workspace (Slides, Vids, Docs). All outputs carry Google's invisible SynthID watermark for AI-content provenance. Closed and proprietary — API only, no weights. The reliability play: consistent prompt adherence and fewer rendering artifacts than rivals, positioned against GPT Image and Midjourney.

Benchmarks
Provider-claimed (Google): improved quality and text rendering over Imagen 3 — treat as provider-claimed. Independent: competitive placement in crowdsourced image leaderboards; no standardized public benchmark scores.
Provider-reported unless a source says otherwise. Benchmarks are marketing-adjacent by nature — treat them as directional.
Use cases
Trust score — 7/10
Scored 7/10 (metrics tier). Google-scale reliability, genuine 2K output, best-in-class text rendering, and SynthID provenance watermarking — the safe enterprise pick. Docked three points: (1) closed and proprietary, per-image metered; (2) quality claims are provider-reported; (3) the Fast/Standard/Ultra tiering means you must evaluate which tier you actually need — headline quality is the Ultra tier.
