HyperCLOVA X SEED 1.5B is the smallest text-focused tier of Naver Cloud's HyperCLOVA X SEED lineup, open-sourced in April 2025 alongside 3B and 0.5B siblings. It is built for fast text comprehension with low operational cost, positioned between the multimodal 3B model and the ultra-light 0.5B on-device tier.
Naver released the SEED family under terms that allow domestic and international businesses to use the models free of charge for commercial purposes, a deliberate move to lower the adoption barrier for Korean small and medium businesses. The company claimed Korean-language competitiveness on par with much larger foreign models.
The SEED line has since grown to include Think and Omni reasoning variants. The 1.5B tier remains the balanced choice: quick enough for interactive products, cheap enough for high-volume deployment, and culturally grounded in Korean language and knowledge.
