About

Hailuo 02 is Shanghai-based MiniMax's flagship video generation model, launched June 18, 2025. It generates native 1080p clips of 6 or 10 seconds (768p options for lighter tiers) from text or image inputs, with a Noise-aware Compute Redistribution (NCR) architecture that concentrates compute on the hardest parts of motion generation, plus a Director Mode for scripted camera moves and start/end-frame controls.

Its calling card is physics and instruction following — water splashes, fabric movement, object collisions — and the independent numbers back it up: 1332 Elo on the Artificial Analysis video arena, #2 behind Seedance 1.0 and decisively ahead of Google's Veo 3 Preview (1241). The tradeoff: no native audio or dialogue, so Veo 3 and Sora 2 remain better single-pass choices for sound-on storytelling. Pricing runs through MiniMax credits (third-party resellers list roughly $0.25–$0.63 per video), positioning it as the budget top-tier option.

Launch date and specs confirmed across independent coverage (Novita, Z.Tools, Bonega) with an independent 1332-Elo arena ranking corroborating the quality claims. Docked for: (1) proprietary, API-only; (2) pricing figures come from resellers, not MiniMax's own published rate card; (3) no native audio — a real functional gap versus Veo 3.
