Gemini 1.5 Pro
Google's February 2024 breakthrough — the first mainstream model with a 1-million-token context window.
About
Released February 15, 2024, Gemini 1.5 Pro introduced million-token context windows to a mainstream API — roughly 700,000 words, an hour of video, or 30,000 lines of code in a single prompt. A mid-size multimodal MoE model, Google said it matched the larger Gemini 1.0 Ultra on most benchmarks while running cheaper, and it became Google's default production model through most of 2024.
Google demonstrated it analyzing a 44-minute silent film and finding moments in a 402-page Apollo 11 transcript, and research tests pushed retrieval to 10 million tokens. Priced at $1.25/$5 per million input/output tokens after two 2024 price cuts, it was replaced as flagship by Gemini 2.5 Pro in 2025 but remains available via API for existing integrations. Proprietary and API-only.
