About

FLUX.2 [dev] (November 25, 2025) is Black Forest Labs' 32-billion-parameter second-generation text-to-image model: state-of-the-art photorealism, precise text rendering, and the headline multi-reference editing — supply several reference images and the model preserves identity across scenes without LoRA training.

The [dev] weights are under the FLUX Non-Commercial License: not open source, no commercial use. (BFL later released the smaller FLUX.2 [klein] 4B under Apache 2.0 for commercial use; [pro]/[flex]/[max] are API-only.) With 407k Hugging Face downloads it is the most-used FLUX.2 checkpoint. Note the [dev] variant is guidance-distilled and aimed at maximum quality rather than speed.

Benchmarks

Independent: strong placement on the Artificial Analysis text-to-image leaderboard (crowdsourced human preference) — treat leaderboard positions as directional, not rigorous. Provider-claimed: SOTA photorealism and prompt adherence — treat as provider-claimed.

Provider-reported unless a source says otherwise. Benchmarks are marketing-adjacent by nature — treat them as directional.

Trust score — 7/10

/10 trustMetrics-checked

Scored 7/10 (metrics tier). The strongest open-weight-adjacent image model of its generation (407k HF downloads, #1-tier leaderboard placement), with genuinely new multi-reference editing. Docked three points: (1) the [dev] license bans commercial use — the single biggest limitation; (2) 32B needs serious GPU; (3) quality claims lean on crowdsourced leaderboards and vendor marketing, not standardized benchmarks.
