About

Emu3 is a suite of multimodal models from the Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence that tokenizes images, text, and video into a discrete space and trains a single transformer from scratch with next-token prediction alone — no diffusion and no compositional CLIP+LLM stack. The team reports it surpasses SDXL on image generation, LLaVA-1.6 on vision-language understanding, and can also generate video through next-token prediction.

BAAI says it open-sourced key techniques and models, with weights distributed through its Hugging Face collection. The exact license terms on the model card should be confirmed before commercial use.
