About

Azure's neural text-to-speech is the enterprise workhorse of this list: 400-plus neural voices across more than 140 languages and locales, full SSML support, real-time streaming and batch synthesis, and a compliance story (ISO, SOC, GDPR, region-specific HIPAA) that startups can't match. Neural voices went into preview in December 2018, and the catalog has since grown to include premium tiers like the Dragon HD voices and custom voice training for brand voices.

Pricing runs $4 per million characters for standard voices and $16 for neural, with premium HD voices higher (around $30 per million); new accounts get 5 million standard and 500,000 neural characters a month free for the first 12 months. You use it through the Speech SDK (.NET, Python, Java, JavaScript and more) or REST, and it slots into the wider Azure and Microsoft Foundry ecosystem including the Voice Live API for real-time agents.
