About
XTTS v2 is Coqui's open-source text-to-speech model supporting 17 languages with zero-shot voice cloning from a 6-second reference clip and cross-lingual synthesis. It ships inside the Coqui TTS toolkit (over 44,000 GitHub stars), installable via pip, with a Python API, CLI, and REST server, streaming under 200ms latency on consumer GPUs.
Licensing needs care: the model sits under the Coqui Public Model License, which is non-commercial, and since Coqui AI shut down in 2024 there is effectively no path to a commercial license, creating a grey area for business use. Real-person voice cloning also carries consent obligations.
