Xirp
Vendor-neutral agentic dev environment — run 50+ coding-agent sessions in isolated Git worktrees.
About
Xirp is Spotify's internal agentic development environment, opened in beta in August 2026. It coordinates coding-agent sessions across harnesses — Claude Code, Gemini CLI, and OpenAI Codex at launch — with each session running in its own Git worktree so dozens of agents can work on the same codebase without interfering. Context is decoupled from any single agent or harness, so developers can switch tools or models mid-task while the working state carries over. An integration with Spotify Portal (its Backstage-connected developer platform) lets sessions start with institutional context: component architecture, dependency graphs, ownership data, and architectural decisions.
The honest picture: Xirp is a proprietary macOS desktop app in beta, not open source, and the 36,000+ session figure reflects internal Spotify usage — external adoption is unproven. "Vendor-neutral" is the pitch, but it routes through Spotify's own Portal platform, trading one dependency for another. Managing 50 concurrent agents is an operational discipline most teams haven't developed, and Xirp is one of several orchestration approaches emerging at this layer rather than a singular invention.
What it can do
- 50+ parallel agent sessions in isolated Git worktrees
- Vendor-neutral harness switching with context carryover
- Spotify Portal integration for service ownership and architecture context
- Living documentation generated automatically from sessions
- Price-performance routing across models including self-hosted open models
Setup
Request beta access at xirp.spotify.com. Install the macOS desktop app, connect your coding-agent CLIs (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI), and optionally link a Spotify Portal instance for catalog context.
Prerequisites
macOS; existing coding-agent CLI subscriptions; a Git-based codebase.
