Wayground
AI-supported learning platform for gamified quizzes and interactive lessons (formerly Quizizz).
About
Wayground is the new name for Quizizz, rebranded in June 2025 after a decade as a classroom quiz tool. Founded in 2015 by BITS Pilani alumni Deepak Joy Cheenath and Ankit Gupta, it grew from gamified quizzes into a broader supplemental learning platform with resources, student supports, and reporting for every part of a teacher's lesson. The company says it now serves educators in more than 150 countries and, as of June 2025, 90% of U.S. schools, with a library of over 30 million quizzes and lessons. It has raised about $64 million total, including a $12.5 million Series A led by Eight Roads Ventures, and describes itself as profitable.
The AI story is deliberately backgrounded rather than hyped. The vendor says millions of users engage with AI features weekly, but the actual capabilities sit behind the scenes: translation, difficulty adjustments, and accessibility features like dyslexia-friendly fonts and read-aloud, framed as AI accommodations that support diverse learners without singling anyone out. The positioning is that AI should support the teacher's moments with students, not replace them.
The rebrand is still settling in, and quizizz.com now redirects to wayground.com, which can confuse anyone looking for the old brand. Scale and staying power are the real differentiators here: few edtech products can claim this level of school penetration with a teacher-first growth story rather than top-down procurement.
