Warp
Rust-based AI terminal: natural-language commands, Agent Mode, block-based output. Free + credit plans.
About
Warp is a GPU-accelerated terminal rebuilt around AI, written in Rust. Type # followed by plain English to get a command, ask the AI panel to explain a failure inline, or hand multi-step work to Agent Mode, which plans and executes terminal tasks autonomously. Output is grouped into discrete blocks you can copy, filter, and share as permalinks; Warp Drive syncs workflows, notebooks, and team runbooks to the cloud. The June 2025 Warp 2.0 release leaned fully into agentic development, hitting 52% on Terminal-Bench and adding git commit/push/PR controls inside the terminal.
The honest picture: Warp is closed-source with telemetry on by default, and the community's trust never fully recovered from the era when an account was required just to type. AI runs on credits — the free tier's 75 per month is a trial, not a workflow — with Build at $20/month for 1,500 credits. Benchmarks also show it slower and heavier than minimal terminals like Ghostty. The Build plan's BYOK option (route queries through your own Anthropic/OpenAI/Google keys) is the best value if you already pay for model access.
What it can do
- Natural language to shell commands via # prefix
- Agent Mode for multi-step terminal tasks
- Block-based output with permalinks and filtering
- Warp Drive: cloud-synced workflows and notebooks
