About

Virtue AI was founded in 2024 by Bo Li (CEO), Dawn Song, Carlos Guestrin, and Sanmi Koyejo, a team with serious academic weight in AI safety and security. Its platform covered the AI lifecycle with automated testing, real-time protection, and compliance oversight for models, conversational applications, and autonomous agents. The AgentSuite product combined continuous red-teaming (VirtueRed, using over 100 proprietary attack algorithms), MCP and tool validation (MCPGuard), real-time action guardrails (ActionGuard), and a unified agent gateway with audit trails and role-based access control.

In April 2025 the company raised $30M in combined seed and Series A funding led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Walden Catalyst Ventures, per Axios reporting. On August 17, 2026, Fortinet announced it had acquired Virtue AI to advance its continuous AI protection strategy; Fortinet described the deal as immaterial to its business, a capabilities grab rather than a revenue play. The technology now feeds the Fortinet AI-Native Security Fabric alongside FortiAIGate, covering agentic red-teaming, agent governance, continuous AI validation, and real-time guardrails. Treat this as a historical entry: there is no standalone Virtue AI product to buy anymore, and teams evaluating the current offering should talk to Fortinet.

What it can do

  • Agentic system red-teaming across 50+ sandboxed environments and 14 high-stakes domains (historical)
  • Real-time multimodal guardrails across text, code, audio, video, and image (historical)
  • MCP server and tool validation; agent access control on tools and data sources (historical)
  • Audit trails, RBAC, and custom policies for compliance (historical)
  • Now integrated into the Fortinet AI-Native Security Fabric

Setup

  1. Note: Virtue AI was acquired by Fortinet in August 2026; the standalone platform is no longer sold.
  2. Evaluate Fortinet's AI security portfolio (Fortinet AI-Native Security Fabric, FortiAIGate) for the successor capabilities.
  3. Contact Fortinet for agent red-teaming, guardrail, and governance features derived from Virtue AI.

Prerequisites

None standalone; Fortinet engagement for the successor offering.
