Vertex AI is Google Cloud's platform for building, training, and deploying ML models and generative AI applications. It spans custom model training, managed Gemini endpoints, RAG with Vertex AI Search, and the Vertex AI Agent Builder with its Agent Engine runtime and Agent Development Kit (ADK), which Google reports has been downloaded more than seven million times.
At Google Cloud Next 2026, Google announced the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, stating that Vertex AI services and roadmap evolutions would be delivered through the Agent Platform going forward. New capabilities include agent observability dashboards, evaluation layers, agent IAM identities, and Model Armor prompt-injection defenses. Limitation: it is deeply tied to the Google Cloud ecosystem, and per-token pricing plus regional premiums require careful budgeting.
