Document Understanding is UiPath's intelligent document processing capability, built for teams already running the UiPath automation platform. It digitizes documents, classifies them, and extracts fields using pre-trained models for common types like invoices, receipts, purchase orders, and utility bills, plus custom models trained in UiPath AI Center. Extracted data flows directly into RPA workflows in UiPath Studio and Orchestrator. Pricing runs on consumption: modern projects charge per operation (digitization free, classification 0.04 units per page, extraction 0.16-0.20 per page), with older AI Unit bundles starting around 60,000 units a year — realistic total costs land in the tens of thousands per year once platform licensing is included. It is not a practical standalone product: the training tooling, orchestration, and deployment all assume you are a UiPath customer, so teams without UiPath should look at dedicated IDP platforms instead.

2. Use pre-trained extractors or train custom models in AI Center on your document samples.
3. Build extraction workflows in UiPath Studio with human validation stations.
