Tolgee
Open-source localization platform with in-context editing
About
Tolgee is a developer-first localization platform whose core is open source under Apache 2.0 and self-hostable. Its standout feature is in-context translation: developers Alt-click any string in the running app and translate it right there, with SDKs for React, Vue, Angular, Svelte, Android, and iOS. The cloud version bills on hosted words with unlimited seats on paid plans, and machine translation is included on every plan.
It has fewer third-party integrations than older competitors, and document-file translation is still on the roadmap.
What it can do
- In-context editing in the running app
- SDKs for JS frameworks, Android, and iOS
- Over-the-air translation delivery
- Translation memory and MT credits included
- REST API and Figma plugin
Setup
- Create a project on Tolgee Cloud or self-host the open-source core with Docker.
- Install the SDK for your framework (e.g. npm i @tolgee/react).
- Add your API key and project ID to the SDK init.
- Wrap strings in the SDK's translate function and enable in-context editing.
- Run auto-translations and publish with over-the-air delivery.
Prerequisites
A JS framework project or mobile app source; a Tolgee Cloud account or a server for self-hosting.
