About
StormGeo is the Bergen, Norway weather-intelligence company that ships live on. It started in 1997 as Storm Weather Center, a spin-off from Norway's commercial broadcaster TV2 founded by meteorologist Siri Kalvig, and grew into one of the largest weather-routing providers for shipping — optimizing vessel routes for fuel, safety and emissions — before expanding into offshore, aviation, renewables and media. In 2021 the Swedish industrial group Alfa Laval acquired it from EQT for about NOK 3.6 billion, folding it into the Marine division; StormGeo later absorbed voyage-planning specialist Nautisk.
The product line covers voyage optimization, fleet performance management, offshore response forecasting for heavy lifts and installations, aviation briefing, and bunker/fuel optimization tied to decarbonization goals. The company reported over 3,000 customers at its 25th anniversary and runs global forecast centers with 24/7 support.

Trust score — 7/10
Scored 7/10 (TIER metrics, metrics-v1). Evidence: 1997 TV2 spin-off origin and Siri Kalvig founding verified via trade press; 2021 Alfa Laval acquisition at ~NOK 3.6B and 3,000+ customers documented by Marine Log, DredgeWire and the company's own anniversary announcements. Strengths: 25+ years of domain depth, real decarbonization angle for shipping, 24/7 human forecast centers. Docked for: (1) enterprise-only, no self-serve or public pricing; (2) forecast-accuracy claims are provider-stated; (3) now a division of an industrial conglomerate, so product direction follows the parent. License: proprietary enterprise SaaS; pricing on request.
