Stepsize
Editor-first issue tracker for reporting and prioritizing technical debt where you code.
About
Stepsize tackles technical debt at the moment it is discovered. Instead of context-switching to Jira, developers flag debt directly in VS Code or JetBrains with the code linked, then prioritize and schedule it from a team dashboard. It syncs with Jira, GitHub, and Slack so tracked debt flows into the tools the rest of the team already uses, and reporting shows debt trends over time.
The honest picture: tracking debt is only half the battle. Teams still have to allocate sprint capacity to fix it, and Stepsize cannot force that prioritization conversation. It works best on teams that already want to pay down debt and just need the friction removed.
What it can do
- Report tech debt directly from the editor
- Debt linked to specific lines and files
- Team prioritization dashboard and trend reports
- Two-way sync with Jira, GitHub, and Slack
- Sprint planning integration for scheduling fixes
