SST
TypeScript infrastructure-as-code framework with the Pulumi-powered Ion engine.
About
SST (formerly Serverless Stack) is an open-source TypeScript framework for defining full-stack application infrastructure in a single sst.config.ts file. It provides high-level components for Lambda functions, containers, queues, buckets, databases, and front-end frameworks like Next.js, with resource linking that wires IAM permissions automatically instead of hardcoding ARNs.
SST v3/v4 replaced the old CDK-plus-CloudFormation engine with Ion, a Pulumi-and-Terraform-backed deployment engine that brings faster deploys, clearer errors, no CloudFormation stack limits, and multi-cloud resources (AWS plus Cloudflare, Vercel, GitHub, and others) from one config. An SST Console adds hosted dashboards for logs, issues, and deployments.
Limitations to note: v3+ is backwards-incompatible with v2, so older projects need migration; the abstraction still assumes comfort with AWS concepts; and complex edge cases may require dropping to raw Pulumi resources.
What it can do
- TypeScript-first IaC with high-level components
- Ion engine: Pulumi plus Terraform providers, multi-cloud
- Automatic IAM linking between resources
- Live Lambda debugging and SST Console dashboard
