Postmark
Transactional email API obsessed with deliverability and delivery speed.
About
Postmark is a transactional email service built for the emails that absolutely must land: password resets, 2FA codes, receipts, booking confirmations. Its core design decision is strict separation of transactional and broadcast traffic into separate Message Streams with separate IP reputations, so a marketing send can never tank a password reset's deliverability — the reason it consistently tops independent deliverability benchmarks (EmailTooltester measured 93.8% average across 2026 rounds).
Delivery is fast — typically 50–100ms API latency with public time-to-inbox reporting, which almost no competitor publishes — and the dashboard, DKIM/SPF/DMARC tooling, 45-day message retention, webhooks, and inbound parsing are all genuinely excellent. Nine-plus official SDKs cover the major languages, and both API and SMTP sending are supported.
The tradeoffs are real: pricing scales steeply ($15/mo for 10k, overage $1.20–$1.80 per 1k depending on tier), templating is plain compared to SendGrid, and hosting is US-only, which rules it out for some EU teams. Owned by ActiveCampaign since 2022 — a change that, by most accounts, has left the product alone. If a delayed email is a support ticket, Postmark is the premium answer; if you're watching price per thousand, look elsewhere.
What it can do
- Transactional and broadcast Message Streams with separate IP reputations
- Sub-100ms delivery with publicly published time-to-inbox data
- 45-day message retention with full activity history on all plans
- Intelligent bounce handling with automatic suppression and reason codes
- Webhooks for delivery, bounce, open, and click events; inbound email parsing
- First-class DKIM, SPF, and DMARC management in the dashboard

Trust score — 7/10
Scored 7/10 (metrics tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: Closed SaaS, no public repo; adoption estimated from market position as a leading transactional email provider (thinner evidence); Owned by ActiveCampaign since 2022; product actively developed, docs verified at postmarkapp.com/developer; Deliverability independently benchmarked: 93.8% avg (EmailTooltester 2026 rounds), 99.99% uptime. Manual review: strict transactional/broadcast stream separation is the core trust mechanism and is well documented; US-only hosting and steep overage pricing are the honest tradeoffs. License: Closed SaaS (ActiveCampaign).
