OpenPipe

Fine-tune smaller models from logged LLM traffic. Historical entry.

Visit official site →

About

OpenPipe was a hosted fine-tuning platform with a clever loop: swap your OpenAI SDK import for theirs, and it logged every request and response. From that logged traffic you could build datasets, fine-tune smaller open models like Mistral and Llama, evaluate them LLM-as-judge against baselines, and serve them on managed endpoints. Its fine-tuned models routinely matched GPT-4-class quality on narrow tasks at a fraction of the cost, and you kept your weights.

This is a historical entry. CoreWeave agreed to acquire OpenPipe in September 2025; hosted training and inference ended on July 30, 2026, and customers were migrated to Weights & Biases inference. The actively maintained OpenPipe-branded project is ART, an open-source reinforcement-learning trainer for multi-step agents.

It is included because the log-to-fine-tune pattern it pioneered is now standard practice across the industry. Do not sign up expecting the hosted platform; evaluate W&B or the ART open-source project instead.

What it can do

  • Log-to-dataset pipeline from production LLM traffic
  • One-click fine-tuning of Mistral and Llama-class models
  • LLM-as-judge evaluation against baseline models
  • Managed serving endpoints (retired July 2026)
  • ART: open-source RL trainer for multi-step agents (active)

Setup

Historical: SDK-swap integration. Current path is Weights & Biases inference or the open-source ART trainer.

Prerequisites

For ART: Python and a GPU-capable environment; see the OpenPipe GitHub org.
