Obico

Open-source AI failure detection and remote monitoring for 3D printers, born as The Spaghetti Detective.

About

Obico is the all-in-one open-source smart 3D printing platform, formerly known as The Spaghetti Detective. Its AI watches your printer's webcam feed during prints and detects failures like spaghetti, print detachment, layer shifts, and nozzle blobs, then pauses the print and alerts you by phone, email, Telegram, or Discord. The project says its AI has watched over 80 million hours of printing and caught more than 800,000 real failures across its community; those figures are self-reported. A rebuilt next-gen detection engine became generally available to AI Premium subscribers in May 2026, claiming 63% fewer missed failures and 56% fewer false alerts.

Obico is fully open source under AGPL-3.0, from client to server including the AI detection, and it integrates with OctoPrint, Klipper, Fluidd, and Mainsail with full remote access. You can self-host the server or use Obico Cloud, which has a free tier for occasional printing. NVIDIA's developer site lists it as a Jetson-compatible project. The vendor is candid that false positives still happen in difficult lighting or with unusual geometries, and the newest AI model sits behind the paid tier, so the free experience uses the older detection.

What it can do

  • AI failure detection for spaghetti, detachment, layer shifts, and nozzle blobs
  • Automatic print pausing on detected failures
  • Remote monitoring and full printer control from anywhere, no VPN needed
  • Push, email, Telegram, and Discord notifications with webcam snapshots
  • 100% open source (AGPL-3.0), self-hostable server
  • Mobile apps for iOS and Android; print statistics and history

Setup

  1. Install the Obico plugin for OctoPrint (Plugin Manager) or the moonraker-obico component for Klipper.
  2. Create a free Obico account or self-host the obico-server with Docker.
  3. Link your printer and confirm the webcam feed is visible to the AI.
  4. Tune detection sensitivity and notification channels, and enable auto-pause on failure.

Prerequisites

A 3D printer running OctoPrint, Klipper, Fluidd, or Mainsail; a webcam; an Obico account (free tier available) or your own server.

Trust score — 7/10

/10 trustVerified

Scored 7/10 (verified tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: 1,918 GitHub stars (GitHub API), AGPL-3.0, pushed 2026-10-15; obico.io verified live; NVIDIA developer site lists it as a Jetson project; next-gen model release documented on the company blog. Strengths: fully open source, actively maintained, honest about false-positive limits. Docked for: (1) detection stats (800k failures, 80M hours) are vendor self-reported; (2) the newest AI engine requires the paid AI Premium tier. License: AGPL-3.0.
