NotebookLM
Source-grounded research assistant that turns your documents into briefings and podcasts
About
NotebookLM is Google's AI research assistant, launched as a Google Labs experiment in 2023. Users upload PDFs, docs, slides, YouTube links, and audio files into notebooks; the assistant answers questions with inline citations to the exact source passages, which makes it popular with students and researchers. Its signature feature, Audio Overviews, turns sources into podcast-style discussions between AI hosts (Deep Dive, Brief, Critique, and Debate formats, in 50+ languages per reporting), and Video Overviews arrived in 2025. Standalone iOS and Android apps launched May 19, 2025. It runs on Google's Gemini models and is free to use. Grounding answers in user-supplied sources reduces (but does not eliminate) hallucination risk, and output quality depends heavily on source quality.
