Azure Agent Skills

193+ Microsoft-curated agent skills giving coding assistants structured Azure expertise

Visit official site →

About

Azure Agent Skills is a curated collection of agent skills (SKILL.md-format folders with instructions, scripts, and resources) maintained by the Microsoft Docs team, covering Azure services across 19 categories — Compute, Integration, Data & Analytics, AI & ML, Security & Identity, Networking, Infrastructure, Management, and more. Skills use progressive disclosure (discovery → instructions → resources) and point the assistant at current Microsoft Learn documentation, best practices, architecture patterns, and troubleshooting guides. The repo ships as a ready-to-use agent plugin with native manifests for VS Code/Copilot, Claude Code, and Codex, plus role-based curated bundles. Skills are static files that run locally; most require network access to fetch the latest docs. Content license is CC-BY-4.0 (attribution required if content is reused, not just read); accompanying code is MIT.

What it can do

  • • 193 skills organized in 19 Azure service categories (compute, integration, data & analytics, AI & ML, security & identity, networking, infrastructure, management, specialized)
  • • Per-service guidance: configuration procedures, architecture patterns, best practices, constraints, and troubleshooting decision trees
  • • Curated, topic-organized links into official Microsoft Learn documentation
  • • Progressive disclosure: agents load skill metadata first, full SKILL.md on trigger, scripts/examples only when needed
  • • Role-based curated bundles (collections) for common Azure developer workflows
  • • One-click agent-plugin installs for VS Code/Copilot, Claude Code, and Codex; manual copy path for all other assistants
  • • Skills are static local files — no service to run and no credentials required

Setup

  1. (Recommended, VS Code) Command Palette → Chat: Install Plugin From Source → paste https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/agent-skills → enable in Chat: Configure Skills. Requires chat.plugins.enabled (preview setting).
  2. (Claude Code) Run /plugin marketplace add MicrosoftDocs/agent-skills, then /plugin install azure-agent-skills@microsoft-agent-skills, then /reload-plugins.
  3. (Codex CLI) codex plugin marketplace add MicrosoftDocs/agent-skills, then install azure-agent-skills from /plugins.
  4. (Manual, any assistant) git clone https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/agent-skills.git, then copy the folders inside skills/ (e.g. azure-functions/) into your assistant's skills path (.github/skills/, .claude/skills/, .codex/skills/, .cursor/skills/, .agent/skills/, …).
  5. VS Code manual mode: enable Chat: Use Agent Skills (chat.agent.skills) in Settings, then ask Azure questions naturally.

Prerequisites

An AI coding assistant that supports the Agent Skills open standard (SKILL.md): Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Codex CLI, Antigravity, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, OpenCode, or AdaL CLI. Network access to fetch current Microsoft Learn documentation (or the Microsoft Learn MCP server, recommended by the docs). VS Code manual installs require the experimental `chat.agent.skills` setting.
