linkding
The minimal, fast, self-hosted bookmark manager: one Docker container, ~50MB of RAM, tag-based and API-first.
About
linkding is the self-hosted bookmark manager for people who value simplicity and low resource use, built by Sascha Sissbruecker with Django and Python. It is deliberately minimal: one Docker container, SQLite by default (PostgreSQL optional), about 50MB of idle RAM, so it runs happily on a Raspberry Pi or a small VPS. Bookmarks get automatic title, description, and favicon extraction, tag-based organization, full-text search with optional page-content scraping, bulk editing, Markdown notes, and a read-it-later flag.
It covers the automation story unusually well for the category: a full REST API with token auth (there is even a community MCP server bridging it to AI assistants), SSO via OIDC, RSS feeds per tag or search, web archiving via local HTML snapshots or Internet Archive integration, bookmark sharing between users, and Netscape HTML import/export. Browser extensions exist for Chrome and Firefox, and mobile works through the PWA. MIT-licensed with over 11,000 GitHub stars and consistent releases from a single active maintainer. No independent benchmarks are published.
What it can do
- Minimal tag-based bookmark manager, fast on tiny hardware
- One Docker container; SQLite default, PostgreSQL optional
- Full-text search with optional page-content scraping
- Bulk editing, Markdown notes, read-it-later flag
- Web archiving: local HTML snapshots or Internet Archive
- RSS feeds per tag or per search
- Full REST API with token auth for automation and agents
- SSO via OIDC or authentication proxies
- Sharing between users and public per-bookmark links
- Browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox; PWA for mobile
- Netscape HTML import/export; MIT-licensed
Setup
Run the Docker container with a couple of env vars (SQLite default; PostgreSQL optional), create the admin user, and install the browser extension.
Prerequisites
Docker on any small host (~50MB RAM idle). Optional: PostgreSQL, headless Chrome for preview images.

Trust score — 9/10
Scored 9/10 (verified tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: GitHub API confirms 11,304 stars under MIT with a commit pushed 2026-10-01; independent comparisons confirm the ~50MB footprint, SQLite/PostgreSQL options, REST API, RSS feeds, and archiving integrations. Strengths: best-in-class simplicity-to-capability ratio for self-hosting, genuine automation story (API, MCP server, OIDC), active single maintainer with consistent releases, MIT license. Docked for: (1) no built-in page archiving of the Linkwarden kind (metadata-first by design); (2) single-maintainer bus factor; (3) no independent benchmarks. License: MIT.
