About

LightTag was a text-annotation platform aimed at NLP teams building training data for classifiers and large language models. It handled entities, classifications, and relations with full Unicode support, including RTL and CJK languages, keyboard-driven workflows, and a review mode with annotator performance reporting. Its AI learned from early labels to suggest the rest; the company claimed about half of annotations in the platform came from AI suggestions, a provider figure never independently audited. The team published a platform paper on arXiv (2109.02320) positioning LightTag as a data-scientist-oriented successor to academic tools like BRAT and WebAnno. The product is no longer publicly offered: lighttag.io now redirects to founder Tal Perry's personal site, and no shutdown announcement could be found, so the honest classification is retired rather than active. The paper remains a useful design reference.
