LangGraph by LangChain

Low-level orchestration framework for building stateful, durable AI agents in Python and TypeScript.

Visit official site →

About

LangGraph models agents as graphs of nodes and edges with typed state — cycles, conditional routing, durable checkpointing (SQLite/Postgres), and human-in-the-loop are first-class.

It is MIT-licensed and part of the LangChain ecosystem (pairs with LangSmith for observability and deployment). A Sept 2026 independent review picked it as the default Python choice for production agents.

What it can do

  • Stateful agent graphs with cycles, conditional edges, and subgraphs
  • Durable execution: automatic resume-from-checkpoint after failures
  • Human-in-the-loop: inspect/modify agent state mid-run
  • Short-term and long-term memory primitives
  • First-class token streaming and multi-agent orchestration patterns
  • LangSmith integration for tracing, evals, and one-click deployment (paid)

Setup

  1. Install Python 3.10+ (or Node.js for the JS/TS version).
  2. pip install -U langgraph
  3. Set your model provider API key (e.g. OPENAI_API_KEY).
  4. Define nodes/edges/state per the quickstart at docs.langchain.com.
  5. Add a checkpointer (SQLite for dev, Postgres for production) for durable execution.
  6. Deploy via LangSmith Deployment or your own infrastructure.

Prerequisites

Python 3.10+ (or Node.js); LLM API key; Postgres optional for production checkpointing.

Trust score — 9/10

/10 trustVerified

Official LangChain Inc. project with 43k stars, commits within the last day, MIT license, strong docs plus a free academy, and broad enterprise adoption cited by an independent Sept 2026 review. Minor caveats: the most capable observability tooling (LangSmith) is paid, and the ecosystem has a history of breaking API changes.
