Kortix
The open-source AI operating system — self-hosted agents for your whole team, on your own infrastructure.
About
Kortix is the project formerly known as Suna (the repo is still kortix-ai/suna): an open-source platform that bills itself as the AI operating system for companies. Your agents, their shared skills, company memory, and every connector live in one git repo — versioned, diffable, and shared across the team. Agents work on real cloud computers with an isolated sandbox per session on its own branch, and land what they produce through a change request a human approves.
The README positions it as the self-hosted alternative to Claude Cowork and ChatGPT Work, with agents in Slack and Teams, background coding agents in the cloud, scheduled automations that replace Zapier-style flows, and governed deployments with per-tool rules, approval gates, audit trails, and SAML SSO. At 20,000+ stars it is one of the fastest-growing agent platforms of 2025-2026. Two honest caveats: the LICENSE file is Elastic License 2.0, which is source-available but not OSI open source (it restricts hosted-service use), and the Suna-to-Kortix rebrand is recent, so expect naming churn in docs and community.
What it can do
- Agents, skills, memory, and connectors versioned in one git repo
- Isolated cloud sandbox per session, changes landed via human-approved change requests
- Agents in Slack and Microsoft Teams with thread-native replies
- Scheduled automations and webhooks as Zapier replacements
- Governance: per-tool rules, approval gates, audit trail, SAML SSO, own VPC
- Any model, your own keys, your own infrastructure or managed cloud
Setup
- Clone the repo or deploy with Docker Compose; bring your own model API keys.
- Work through the quickstart in the docs (kortix.com/docs) to configure your first agent.
- Define skills, memory files, and connectors in the shared repo.
- Invite the team; agents run in isolated sandboxes and propose changes via change requests.
- For zero-ops, use Kortix Cloud instead of self-hosting.
Prerequisites
Docker (for self-hosting) or a Kortix Cloud account; model provider API keys; cloud compute for agent sandboxes.
Use cases
Works with
Trust score — 8/10
Scored 8/10 (verified tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: 20,277 GitHub stars (GitHub API), pushed Oct 15 2026; the README documents the AI-OS model, sandbox-per-session architecture, and the Suna-to-Kortix rename; docs corroborate the self-host and governance story. Strengths: the clearest self-hosted answer to Claude Cowork/ChatGPT Work, huge momentum, serious governance story. Docked for: (1) Elastic License 2.0 — source-available, NOT OSI open source, restricts hosted-service use; (2) recent rebrand means naming churn; (3) heavyweight infra for small teams. License: Elastic License 2.0 (source-available).
