Jupyter AI
Generative AI extension for JupyterLab with an %%ai magic and chat UI.
About
Jupyter AI is the official generative-AI extension for Jupyter, incubated under the JupyterLab organization. It turns notebooks into an AI playground through two surfaces: the %%ai magic command, which works anywhere the IPython kernel runs (JupyterLab, Notebook, Colab, VS Code), and a native chat UI inside JupyterLab for conversational assistance.
It supports a wide provider roster including Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, Mistral, Cohere, and Hugging Face, plus local models through Ollama and GPT4All. As of v3 it is a metapackage with subpackages maintained under the jupyter-ai-contrib organization, and recent versions connect AI agents to notebooks through open standards like ACP and MCP.
What it can do
- %%ai magic command for in-notebook generation
- Native conversational chat UI in JupyterLab
- Broad provider support plus local models via Ollama and GPT4All
- ACP and MCP support for connecting AI agents to notebooks
