Jules
Google's async AI coding agent that clones your repo, plans, and opens pull requests.
About
Jules is an autonomous coding agent built by Google Labs. Announced in December 2024, it entered public beta at Google I/O on May 20, 2025, and reached general availability on August 6, 2025. Unlike copilots or autocomplete tools, Jules works asynchronously: you describe a task in natural language, it clones the target GitHub repository into an isolated Google Cloud VM, produces a step-by-step plan, executes it, runs tests, and opens a pull request against the source branch.
Powered by Gemini 2.5 Pro, Jules handles dependency updates, test writing, bug fixes, documentation, and new features. Access is via jules.google.com, the Jules Tools CLI, or a REST API. The free tier covers 15 tasks per day with 3 concurrent; Google AI Pro ($19.99/month) and Ultra ($124.99/month) raise limits. Public repositories' data may be used for training, while private repo data is not — a distinction Google clarified after beta feedback.
What it can do
- Autonomous multi-file code changes with pull requests
- Step-by-step plan with diff review before applying
- Async background execution in isolated Google Cloud VMs
- GitHub integration with audio summaries of completed work
