Hugging Face Inference

Serverless inference for 1M+ models — the HF ecosystem's API.

About

Hugging Face Inference (2022) is the serverless API for the Hub's 1M+ models: Inference Providers route to Together, Fireworks, and others; Inference Endpoints give dedicated deployments.

Commercial: usage-based (PRO $9/mo includes credits). The Hub-native API — for trying any open model without setup, or deploying fine-tunes, HF Inference is the path of least resistance. The provider routing means you're often using Together/Fireworks under the hood.

What it can do

  • • 1M+ models via API\n• Serverless inference\n• Inference Endpoints (dedicated)\n• Provider routing\n• Fine-tune deployment\n• Hub-native

Setup

  1. Get a HF token at https://huggingface.co/settings/tokens.\n2. Use huggingface_hub or the Inference API: https://api-inference.huggingface.co.\n3. Call any supported model by ID.

Prerequisites

Trust score — 7/10

/10 trustMetrics-checked

Scored 7/10 (metrics tier). The Hub-native API with 1M+ models and Hugging Face's ecosystem. Docked three points: (1) serverless can be slower than dedicated; (2) provider routing adds opacity; (3) not the fastest. For Hub-centric workflows.

How the trust score is built

Full methodology →
Adoption · stars/downloads, log-scaled vs peers
9.0/10
Maintenance · recency, releases, issue load
5.0/10
Openness · license + docs
4.5/10
Manual review · sanity read + red-flag check
8.0/10
  • · provider-tier estimate — thinner evidence (no public adoption metric)
  • · Hub-native; 1M+ models
  • · no release date — neutral maintenance score
  • · manual review: serverless can be slower; provider routing opacity; license: proprietary — usage-based; PRO $9/mo
