Herd-i
AI cameras that score dairy cow lameness and body condition daily
About
Herd-i installs high-definition cameras in the milking-shed exit race and uses AI trained on tens of thousands of expert-scored cows to automatically assess each cow's gait and body condition after every milking. The dashboard gives a daily short list of animals that need attention for lameness or condition loss, calibrated to regional scoring systems like DairyNZ's.
The appeal is non-invasive, labor-free scoring that plugs into the normal milking routine. Limitations: it needs a reliable on-farm Wi-Fi signal (Starlink is used where connectivity is weak), models are regionally calibrated, and it's still early in its US expansion.
