About

Gotenberg is an open-source, stateless HTTP API for document conversion, distributed as a Docker image. It wraps Chromium and LibreOffice in a container and exposes endpoints for HTML-to-PDF, URL-to-PDF, Office document conversion to PDF, PDF merging, and image-to-PDF conversion, making it language-agnostic since any client that can make HTTP requests can use it.

It is commonly run as a sidecar container or shared service inside Docker Compose or Kubernetes, and it is MIT licensed. Operators should keep it patched: a critical argument-injection vulnerability, CVE-2026-40281, was disclosed in May 2026 affecting versions up to 8.30.1, so running a current release is essential.

What it can do

  • HTML, URL, and Markdown to PDF via Chromium
  • Office document conversion via LibreOffice
  • PDF merging and image-to-PDF conversion
  • Stateless design for sidecar or shared service use

Setup

Run the gotenberg/gotenberg Docker image and POST multipart form data to its conversion endpoints.
