About

Goose (aaif-goose/goose, Apache-2.0, ~55k stars) is Block's open-source AI coding agent: a CLI plus desktop app that plans and executes coding tasks — file edits, shell commands, tests — with any LLM backend (Claude, GPT, Gemini, or local models).

It extends through MCP servers (GitHub, Jira, Slack, databases), supports recipes for repeatable workflows, and keeps session memory. Note: the repo moved from block/goose to aaif-goose/goose. The open, model-agnostic alternative to vendor CLIs.

What it can do

  • CLI + desktop app
  • Model-agnostic (cloud or local)
  • MCP extension system
  • Recipes for repeatable workflows
  • Session memory
  • Apache-2.0 open source

Setup

  2. Configure your LLM provider (API key or local model via Ollama).
  3. Add MCP extensions for your tools (GitHub, Jira, etc.).
