About

Google AI Studio is the fastest on-ramp to the Gemini API: a free, browser-based environment where you prototype prompts visually, tune temperature and safety settings, test multi-turn conversations, and export working code in Python, JavaScript, Go, or curl with one click. API keys generated here unlock the full Gemini family, and the prompt gallery gives you starting points for common patterns.

It has grown well past a prompt playground. The Build mode is now a genuine prompt-to-app agent: describe a web app in natural language and it scaffolds a working React project, wires up the Gemini API key server-side, generates assets with Nano Banana, offers in-preview visual editing, integrates with Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Drive), and deploys to Cloud Run or exports to GitHub — all without local setup.

The honest caveat: it is a Google product through and through — closed source, Google-account required, and you are building on Google's cloud and terms. Availability and free quotas vary by region. But for trying a Gemini idea in under a minute, or shipping a weekend prototype without touching a terminal, it remains unmatched.

Setup

  1. Go to aistudio.google.com and sign in with a Google account.
  2. Create a prompt (chat, freeform, or structured), pick a Gemini model, and iterate.
  3. Click "Get API key" to generate a key for your own apps.
  4. For apps: choose Build → describe your web app → preview, iterate, and deploy to Cloud Run or export to GitHub/ZIP.
