GitHub Models
Free AI model playground built into GitHub for developers.
About
GitHub Models gives developers free access to AI models — including Meta's Llama, OpenAI's GPT-4o family, Cohere's Command, and Mistral's models — directly inside GitHub. A marketplace playground lets you compare models side by side, and an OpenAI-compatible API plus SDKs make it easy to prototype generative-AI features using just a GitHub account, with a smooth upgrade path to paid Azure AI for production.
The free tier is rate-limited (roughly 15 requests per minute and 150,000 tokens per day in community documentation) and is explicitly for learning, experimentation, and proofs of concept. Honest caveats: it is not designed for production workloads, content filters cannot be disabled, and rate limits are per-account.
What it can do
- Free playground to compare models from multiple providers
- OpenAI-compatible API for quick prototyping
- Seamless path to production via Azure AI
