Formbricks

Open-source survey platform — the privacy-first Qualtrics alternative.

Visit official site →

About

Formbricks is a free and open-source surveying platform for gathering feedback at every point of the user journey: in-app surveys, website widgets, link surveys, and email surveys, with prebuilt analytics or a DIY data layer on top. The positioning is "the open-source Qualtrics alternative" with a privacy-first experience-management angle — you can self-host with Docker and keep response data on your own infrastructure, which is the entire argument for teams that can't send user feedback to a US SaaS.

The licensing is honest open-core: the core application is AGPLv3 (fully functional — design and run all survey types, free for commercial use, modifications must be published), with an Enterprise Edition for SSO, advanced targeting, and white-labeling. ~13,100 GitHub stars and daily commits put it among the most active open-source form/survey projects.

Compared to Typeform, Formbricks wins on ownership and price (free core) but the design polish and conversational UX are a step behind — it's a survey tool first, a brand experience second. The in-app survey SDKs (JS, React Native) are the standout feature for product teams that want contextual micro-surveys without a third-party script phoning home.

What it can do

  • In-app, website, link, and email surveys from one editor
  • AGPLv3 core — fully self-hostable with Docker, data stays on your infra
  • Prebuilt analytics dashboards plus API/webhook data export
  • Targeting: user attributes, URL rules, and event-based survey triggers
  • JS, React Native SDKs for native in-app survey experiences
  • Enterprise add-ons: SSO, advanced targeting, white-labeling

Setup

  1. Cloud: sign up at formbricks.com. Self-host: git clone https://github.com/formbricks/formbricks and run the Docker compose.
  2. Create a survey in the editor (link, website, in-app, or email).
  3. For in-app/website surveys, install the JS snippet or SDK.
  4. Analyze responses in the dashboard or pipe them to your warehouse.

Prerequisites

Self-hosting: Docker and a Postgres database. In-app surveys need the JS snippet or a supported SDK installed on your site/app.
