Firebase Studio
Google's agentic cloud IDE (formerly Project IDX) — Gemini-powered prototyping to production in the browser.

About
Firebase Studio is Google's cloud-based, agentic development environment — the renamed Project IDX (April 2025), built on VS Code running on Google Cloud. Gemini provides always-on AI assistance across chat, code generation, and inline suggestions, while the App Prototyping agent can spin up a full Next.js app from a natural-language description, an image, or even a sketch. It covers the full lifecycle: version control, testing, Android emulation, deployment, and monitoring in one browser tab.
The honest picture: Google announced in March 2026 that Firebase Studio will be discontinued, with shutdown completing March 2027 — do not start new long-term projects here. Focus has shifted to Google AI Studio and other AI products. It remains a useful historical reference for Google's agentic-IDE thinking, and existing workspaces keep running until the shutdown date.
