About

Diffblue Cover is an AI agent for generation and management of unit tests that autonomously writes comprehensive Java and Kotlin unit tests using reinforcement learning rather than probabilistic LLM prompting. It analyzes compiled bytecode, runs code in a secure sandbox, and produces deterministic JUnit and TestNG tests that are guaranteed to compile and run, updating them automatically as the codebase evolves.

The Oxford-based company offers an IntelliJ plugin for one-click test writing, a CLI for batch processing whole projects, and Cover Pipeline for CI/CD integration across Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab, Azure Pipelines, and AWS CodeBuild. Because it runs on-premise and trains on the customer's own codebase, it avoids hallucinations and keeps source code inside the controlled environment.

What it can do

  • Autonomous Java unit test generation
  • Reinforcement learning for deterministic tests
  • Automatic test maintenance on code changes
  • IntelliJ, CLI, and CI pipeline integrations
  • On-premise execution with no code exfiltration

Setup

Install the IntelliJ plugin, the dcover CLI, or the GitHub Action; run against a compilable Java project.

Prerequisites

Java or Kotlin project that compiles with no failing tests; Maven or Gradle build.
