Definely
AI contract drafting and review suite that lives inside Microsoft Word, built by ex-Freshfields lawyers.
About
Definely is a London-based legal tech company whose AI-powered suite helps lawyers draft, review, and proofread contracts without leaving Microsoft Word. Its products cover the pre-execution workflow: Draft surfaces defined terms and clause references in place so readers never lose their place in a document; Vault inserts pre-approved precedent clauses in one click; Proof scans for inconsistencies and broken cross-references; and PDF extracts key points from scanned documents. In 2025 the company launched Enhance, its first agentic AI product, whose agents collaborate on drafting, reviewing, and proofreading tasks directly inside Word.
The company was founded by two former Freshfields associates, Nnamdi Emelifeonwu and Feargus MacDaeid, and now counts firms including A&O Shearman, Slaughter and May, DLA Piper, and Dentons among its 150-plus customers (company-reported). It raised a $30 million Series B led by Revaia in June 2025, bringing total funding to about $40 million, to fund US expansion and AI development. Adoption is enterprise-driven with no public self-serve pricing, so firms should budget for a sales-led evaluation.
