Defined.ai
Ethical AI training-data marketplace for buying, selling and commissioning datasets.
About
Defined.ai (formerly DefinedCrowd) is an ethical AI training-data marketplace founded in 2015 by Daniela Braga, a former Microsoft speech-technology researcher. Data scientists can buy off-the-shelf datasets, sell their own data as vendors, or commission custom collection through the company's Neevo crowd platform, with subscription-based Data Access Plans for ongoing speech-data needs. The company says it has raised over $80 million and has appeared on the Forbes AI 50.
Coverage spans speech, text, image and multimodal data across more than 50 languages, with an emphasis on consented, GDPR-compliant sourcing and ISO-certified data security, a positioning aimed squarely at regulated industries and the EU AI Act era. A January 2025 collaboration with Getty Images added commercially-safe image datasets. Caveat: as with any marketplace, dataset freshness and license terms should be verified per dataset rather than assumed from the platform brand.
